Has anyone used Blackhorn 209 in a 700ml? I bought a bottle to try and when I received it I noticed on the label, not to use with an open breach plug which my 700ml has.

I heard it doesn't work. You might as well give it a try.

hunter-
Do you have the 209 primer setup? If not, I don't think you'll get it to ignite.

hunter, I have a Ruger 77/50 and it has an open breech design. It is similar to your Remington. I modified the breech plug on mine by drilling the flash hole from .027 to .035 and started using CCI mag primers and it shoots BH great now. Before it would hangfire about half the time. Someone on the MM forum wrote a couple months ago on how they were using BH in their Remington. The only problem is that sometimes the primers come out in two pieces. It's not a safety issue in my Ruger but not sure about the Remington. What does your breechplug look like up close, got any pictures? Zen

Sorry, I dont have any pictures. The rem. breach plug is exposed and is hex headed with a slot cut out of each flat so you can use a pick to get under the primer to get it out.

Yes BlackHorn 209 will work as long as you got the 209 Primer Conversion Kit in.You also need a Wheather Shield in place.to help cut back on blowback pieces from being blow into your eyes and face. I Have shot BH209 in my Rem 700ML alot it shoots it great without any hangfires are misfires Has anyone used Blackhorn 209 in a 700ml? larryfox1, What powder charges have you used? I previously used 100 gr of pyrodex powder and was thinking of trying 80 and 85 gr. of the blackhorn with a 240 gr .429 bullet and harvester sabot.

I shot BH209 out of a Knight T-bolt and 80 Gr.V BH209 gives me the same speed as 95 Gr of pyrodex RS. 1500 FPS chronograph. 22" barrel. I have shot the Harvester Green sabots with .430 240 gr swaged lead bullets from Hornady. With BH209 it will be very important that you have a tight sabot fit. Knurl your bullets to increase there diameter till you get a fit that takes a minimum of 40 Lbs. to push down the barrel. ( knurl by rolling bullets between two files) I don't clean between shots, nothing no patch nothing! Good luck, ken Ken

My 700ml has the 21" barrel. Will the 209 burn fast enough in the short barrel? Also what cleaning technique do you use with the blackhorn 209 powder? Do you need to clean your gun right after shooting, or can you wait a week or so if I plan to shoot two weekends in a row?

I couldn't even get 777 pellets to light off in a 700ML. They would hang fire or misfire most of the time with win 209s. Way too much fire blows out of the slits in front of the primer. There were some high speed pics on the net at one time showing how much fire blows out on the 700ML breech plug. Terrible design. You could have a new plug made or possibly have the existing plug altered.
Good Luck
