I have not been afield as much as I like this spring, but I did get out yesterday morning to hunt turkey for the first time (season already two weeks old here in the north country). Just after sunrise, I had a doe and a tiny fawn enter the field about 50 yards from me, and cross a drainage ditch and watched them move across the next field. Just good to see the cycle starting again. Later that morning I went over to look at the tracks, and they were the smallest little things. THe word cute came to mind.
( and about an hour later I called in a tom, 18 # 3 oz. ) Good morning all around.

If you draw a line connecting the spots on a fawn it spells VEAL edge.

Edge, Can't you just go and buy some lamb? I know that those big Jersey does are hard to come by honestly....geeeeez. ;D Those little ones could be the BIG ONE in a few years. Have some chicken to fill in the gaps. Gotta love the little fawns and their playful ways once they get a little gumption to their Mo-Jo. They will run mamma ragged. I'm sure she wonders what she was thinkin' whe she stood for that big 'ole buck back in November. Probably just needed that itch scratched...we've all seen it. Been there a few times.

Great to get an itch scratched. We have a venison roast in the crock pot right now here in the camper and the smell is something else! Driving me and the dog crazy.

I was watching a lot of deer this past weekend up by my cabin. Most of the does still have last years fawns with them. Won't be long and they'll run them off when the new ones are about to arrive. What I did notice was the buck now have bumps on their heads, the size of a small fist. Antler growth is starting.
