OK guys.. need some suggestions.. I got a Bergara Barrel converted by Slufoot. Got it back recently.. found that the Factory Encore Shoulder Screws and the spacer for the Ramrod don't work .. different thread in the Bergara Barrel.. it was suppose to come with replacement shoulder screws but didn't.. I called Bergera and they sent them to me right away.. No big deal.. they should work and I will just use a break down Ram Rod I thought..
Now that I have them .. they would not fit right.. the top one would thread in barely, but the bottom one was not long enough at all.. I had to mill out some of the inside of the of the bottom of the forend to even get that screw to go in .. but now the forend is just too tight I think.. I cut some of the ears away too that slide up over the trigger frame/hing pin area.. but it is still really tight to the barrel..
I am afraid this will affect accuracy now.. I would like to somehow float the barrel so that the only thing touching is the screws.. but in order to do that I think I would need longer screws .. or really mill most of the inside of the synthetic stock away
Am I being too paranoid here? Any suggestions on how to get this problem solved.. should I mill more of the ML synthetic forend inside out? Can I find longer screws somewhere that will work? Has anyone else had this issue with a Bergara 45-70 conversion on an Encore?
Thanks,

From what I have read and had some experience with you are not to free float the barrel behind the forward screw. Only free float forward of the front forearm screw. I went with two aluminum/JB weld pillars about 5/8" diameter. I believe you could also fully bed the forearm solid from the front screw back to the action.
If it is of interest to you at all I was able to keep my ramrod on the gun by off setting the ramrod to the side of the forearm screws and notching the pillars. I will admit it looks a bit funky but I always have my rod. I used a remington ramrod band type hanger graciously provided by Hillbill.

So did you tap the pillars yourself to be able to screw the shoulder screws in?

I don't have an encore, mine is CVA with bergara bbl. I honestly don't completely understand your problem as I can't wrap my head around what you are doing. I unfortunately require pictures for this one but there are many on here running encore with various bbl a d fore arm configuration so hopefully they will chime in.
If the screws were just short I would have been inclined to buy some cap screws (I prefer them) of the proper length and subset the heads.
On my CVA I milled almost all the front and rear plastic pillars out and replaced them with aluminum. To hold the aluminum in place I JB weld bedded the pillars in place as well as making a 1" bedding area on the front and back pillars at the same time. I made clay dams around the pillars to accomplish this. I believe I also filled the skeletonized parts in the bottom of the fore end with JB weld to stiffen the fore end in general.
From a pure accuracy standpoint you may be wasting some time as did I doing what I did... Adding a rod probably negated some of the benefit for me also. On the flipside it's some peace of mind for an hour of your time so for me it was worth doing. My bergara bbl is plenty accurate and I was personally impressed with the quality given the price point. I truly think you will be more than impressed when you find a good load for your gun.

I guess I could just buy longer Cap screws with the correct threading of the proper length .. then just put washers over them to replicate the the spacers that take the place of the original RamRod Holders from the TC ML barrel .. here are the screws that I am talking about that are too short.. www.bellmtcs.com/store/item.php?pid=1311&cid=592

Tony Gettell of tonysgripsandforends makes laminated pillared forends for the Encores. He has Bergara blanks on hand and does not need your barrel. I had him make me one but decided not to use a ramrod and just used the screws he provided with the pillared forend. I could never get the right fit with the provided studs CVA sent me.
You could also try Numrichs for ramrod studs.

Doing a bit more research.. I think my issue is that I have the Flextech ML Forend.. not the standard ML Forend.. I guess I need to order either a custom Forend from someplace like suggested or get the standard ML forend ..
I also went to the local Hardware store to see if I could just get some longer cap screws and a bushing and make that work.. but they didn't have anything with the correct thread size.. I can't seem to find anywhere what exact thread size it is either..

Mike Bellm sells the perfect fit screws for this application(muzzleloader forend/Bergara barrel. I just went through this a couple of weeks ago. BTW mine is floated all the way back to the front screw. My stocks are laminate from Boyds.

Dwhunter.. I am pretty sure those are the same ones that Bergara sent me.. They look identical.. My issue I think is the flextech forend..
