Is there any timing issues between the bolt face and breech plug? If a thicker recoil lug is used on the conversion would this change anything? Thanks Rex

Rexxer, I'm not sure I'm answering your question, but yes, there is a critical relationship between the bolt face and the breech plug. Refer to Tips section for SW's "headspace" procedure. If your rifle was previously bedded the new recoil lug will require a modification in the bedding to accommodate the thicker lug. Once that is done setting the headspace will be the usual standard operation.

8-)Changing to a thicker recoil lug does not change the method of spacing the plug to the bolt. In recent times I've found this is best done by getting the bolt as close to the plug as possible without them touching
If your rifle is bedded and you want to add a thicker lug you may have to grind away any bedding that has oozed around the lug but otherwise the bedding will not effect the lug

How do you guys get the recoil lug perfectly plumb? Does it index to the front of the receiver?

How do you guys get the recoil lug perfectly plumb? Does it index to the front of the receiver? Yes the lug has either a punched or machined detent that aligns with the recess in the receiver.

Thanks RB, that's good to know if and when the .45 becomes too attractive.
