I have a laminate stock and am wanting to give it an oil finish. 1- Will the oil hurt the glue in the laminate stock? 2- With a smooth stock and oil finish, is the stock to slick to hold onto, especially when damp? Any suggestions?

get some gun saver urethane from brownells and follow directions, great stuff.. on the last coat back off and spray a light stipple finish, it will still look good but have some grip. comes in gloss and matte

Because of the glue and the pressure infused dye that Rutland uses to make the laminate it doesn't take oil or stain well. I'm with Bill, a polyurethane finish is the best you can do IMO. I use a satin poly to touch up the Boyds stocks. If you know a guy in a body shop the two part automotive clear coats make a awesome finish that's tougher then woodpecker lips but unless you add a "flat" additive can be pretty glossy.

I run an auto body shop and have done seveal stocks with satin finish clear designed for cars. It works great and is really durable.
