plastic fouling in a muzzleloader is going to happen when you shoot sabots, and i have just been given a old knight, the fouling is to say the least apparent, what can i use to get this fouling cleaned out to the point i can get a good view of the land and grooves, is there a chemical that will cut plastic and whatever else is in there???, i tried denatured alcohol, and a jag, but id have hour and hours and hundreds of patches doing this, need something more aggressive PHOTO TAKEN from breach end, ver hard to get the lighting right for camera, but if you look real close, you can see the junk this photo is from the muzzle end , these photos are after i soaked in hoppes bore solvent, and scrubed with a brass bore brush, still plenty of junk in there

I have a liquid from CVA that's made for cleaning out plastic sabot residue which I do run through the bore on occasions. However, in all my years of shooting, I've never had plastic fouling in my barrel so I don't really know if it works or not. But I also keep my barrel very clean and swab between shots so maybe that's why I don't see it
I would try some Acetone with the thickest patch I could find over a jag - 2 patches if you can get it started into the barrel from the breech end and whack the cleaning rod on the floor to get it started.
I also wouldn't smoke around Acetone either - it's pretty close to jet fuel.

ya this gun was givin to me a week back looking down the bore, the only thing i can think of is plastic fouling, i just ordered the brownells sabot solvent, going to try that, i may try to get a picture and get another opinion, not sure whats in this barrel really, it could be about anything, the jag going down the barrel is rough feeling at best, and each time a lil bit of something unidentafiable comes out but not much, i think the plastic is just imbedded n the rifleing, thats a best guess, i called him and asked whats been ran through the gun, well to say the least everything, buff bullets, maxi-balls, saboted slugs and and those darn platinum coated things that wal-marts sells

Acetone should take care of it.

Boiling hot water is the cheapest and easiest. Then make sure you swab barrel with alcohol and dry thoroughly.

PB Blaster from walmart in a aeresol can works good for getting plastic wad residue out of shotguns. Would probably get plastic out of a MLer as well and it's pretty cheap.
Are you sure the barrel is not pitted?
The most common problem I find when people can't get their bbl clean is from pitting holding the fouling.
Good Luck

could be pitted, this thing is a mess, looks like it has been abused, don't know what to think other than i can see junk in the grooves of the rifling, i soaked it in hoppes bore solvent for 24hrs, had no effect, may not be salvagable, but i was asked to try and save it
