Well,
this entire hunting season has been a but rough. High winds were consistent almost the entire 3 gun season weekends. Only had 2 good mornings of deer movement, and otherwise was very slow, but I hunted hard, hoping for an opportunity! As most know, I has some technical difficulties which resulted in me missing a very nice buck, and I am sad to report I never encountered him again, so I was unable to finish the job.
So yesterday....check solunar calender....says prime hunting from 10:30-12:30, and with church/kid's Christmas play, there was no way I was making it out till around 1pm. So about 1pm, I am in the blind.....nothing moving. About 3:30 (the "minor times according to the solunar calender), I see something 150+ yards off in the woods stand up. Within the next half hour, several does make there way out of the beds towards the field. About 4:30, I had finally picked one out, and was waiting for a shot at about 125 yards. Suddenly, something got their attention, and spooked them all southeast of me, and the group was now standing at about 185 yards. I waited another 6-8 minutes, and finally she turned broadside, and I let the 275MH go. The deer disappeared, I waited a few minutes, and headed out for verification. When I arrived, there was blood everywhere! It literally looked like someone threw blood out of a bucket over a 15 yards spread! So I start following the blood trail, and about 20 yards into the woods, there my deer! However, I noticed the blood trail I am following doesnt lead right to my deer.....it keeps going?? I shine my flashlight ahead, and there is another one! To my surprise, there had apparently been a smaller doe standing in the wrong place behind the big doe I was shooting, and it took a 275MH straight to the neck, and was done for!
So although no buck story, I was rewarded with a 2 for 1 shot via the mighty match hunter! Man, what an excellent bullet this has been, and Ill have pics up later to show some of the carnage. Ranged 185 yards, complete pass through on the big doe, only saw an enrty on the smaller one, but also didnt find the bullet? Pics to come!!
