Well I put down my first ever deer with my savage! 130 yds right at dusk. She was a real donkey with a big neck and head! Love my savage! Isaac

She went 20 yds and the load was 45 grains AA 5744 behind a 300 grain xtp. I have now took two more deer since this doe and one was at 150 yds. Man I love my savage!

Yupp, once you sit in the non-smoking section, you'll never go back. Great job. Merry Christmas. Cory

Nice deer. Here in Western NY we call the big does "boxcars" or "Derby" does. They really stand out as big mature animals. Probably 3 1/2" yrs or older. Major teats and still milk in them. We weighed 3 of the largest ones before we skinned them this year. Field dressed at 130-140 lbs. Is this big by other peoples standard? When you shoot one of these darlings they just look huge. Big noses, long eyelashes, plump bellys and generally "squared off" on all ends and sides. No doubt when you kill a large doe.
Always lots of thick fat on their backs and in the gut cavity when field dressing.
Most of us have done all our rendering and the season is over. Was a challenging one with all the wind most of all seasons and then VERY deep snow at the end. Somehow the freezers always end up with a fair share of venison. Long live whitetails.

In NW Indiana, a 130-140lb doe used to be much more common than today. Many years of high doe limits have lowered our population considerably and especially on those big nanny's. Now they are they exception. Our area has really seen a pathetic deer season this year. Deer numbers are way down likely for a few reasons such as EHD, bad weather, and high coyote population. A new late firearm doe season and inclusion of crossbows has added I think ten thousand+ to the harvest number last year and likely same this year. So good to see someone is still whacking them out there. Congrats.

My biggest So. Illinois doe was 127#'s. Also got a 125# doe in Missouri a while back. She had shoulders like a buck & a head like a mailbox. Good meat there,Congrats!!
