I have been shooting Luke's 310 grain bullet for the last couple months in preparation for the Illinois Deer season. I have been using 10 grains of clays and 60 grains of I4198. I was getting good 100 yard success but I was wanting to stretch the shot out to the 400 yard area for the season. The clays/I4198 didn't shoot as well as I would have like at the longer ranges. (Sub 2 MOA at the 300 and 400 yard ranges)
I was reviewing the some of the trace data from TG in the load section and saw some extremely high velocity being achieved with I3031. I purchased a couple lbs and began playing with it... I ended up settling on a 5 grains of clays and 80 grains of 3031. The velocity was almost exactly what I was getting the the clays/4198 (2660 fps, ES in the 20's) but the accuracy at distance was much improved. All groups under goods shooting condition were under 1 MOA or better out to 400 yards. All the being said, I have manage to harvest two nice deer during the slug seasons in the state of Illinois. One at long distance and the other during the second season at very close distance. Luke's bullet performed very well at both extremes. FYI, with the clays/3031, I shot the gun 3 times this past weekend. Saturday morning early after the gun got soaked Friday. I was concerned it would not go off in the woods on the Saturday hunt. The temperature was 8 degree according to my truck. I shot it again 3 hours later and I would guess the temperature was around 15-18 degrees. Then later that afternoon, 5 o'clock, my hunting buddy wanted to shoot the gun so I let him shoot it and the temperature was 19 per my truck.
RemPac 310 full form bullets 2,660 fps (10 clays/60 I4198 or 5 clays/I3031) Same gun both just added HS Precision stock in the second season.
