Some great deer have been taken in Ohio. That is in part to no rifle hunting and the shotgun season after the rut and 1 buck only per year they say. Also for the most part plenty of food.

Never know what you're going to see in OH, there are big deer scattered throughout the state. Mark, you're in or near the SPOT/AREA, the ZONE, you are blessed. You Athens area guys take some fine bucks every year. Hunter, you're not far from us.... Cadiz isn't far either coosaw.. Jim, you hunt in the land of the 300#ers and where somewhere out that way there are a couple absolute giants taken frequently. And Adams county turns out plenty of good bucks too Bill. Good luck to you all. I will be in Monroe County along with Dave..

Yeah I have pictures of very big deer in the last six or seven years, but last year and this year they have really fell off, this is the worst year yet for me. Last year a 200+ inch typical was killed about 800yds from where I hunt.

There is always the chance of killing a booner anywhere in Ohio, we typically have at least one that we know of in our area, but have no proof this year, it's been an off year for sure. If I had to choose one area in Ohio to hunt it would definitely be the Muskingum/Licking county area, Southern Ohio would be my second choice. Good luck to everyone including the Ohio guys...

OK, the buck in that pic has to be a gross typical of 220-230" + doesn't it? Any way to set up a scale/graph to get an idea of the tine length on that monster? What's the inside spread? 27"

What's the inside spread? 27" One guy who viewed it with a spotting scope, "with at least one Booner under his belt I believe", on its summer range, judged him conservatively at 220" net. There are a couple more pics on page 23 of the thread IIRC, looks wider than the 25" he judged him at. Somewhere in the thread somebody postsed a pic of the Hanson buck and that buck side by side. Pics can be really deceiving but they look very similar. I think this buck is bigger, but like I said, pics can be really deceiving sometimes.

A young buck and maybe ten does sighted so far in two full days. Shots seem down as well, pretty poor to this point!
Guy on AT said the kill was down 23% on Monday from last years total on opening day. Who knows, maybe people just quit checking since they went to the on line method. Poor idea. IMO

I saw 17 in the last hour, 2 small bucks. Before that it was pretty slow. I did not hear many shots.

I got lucky and shot a decent buck on Monday morning. I heard several shots in the first few hours and then it really tapered off. I'll post a picture in the next day or two when I get a chance.

The peak rut in my opinion is over in my neck of the woods. The young bucks are still cruising around but the secondary rut should come in near the end of the week or a bit later from my experience. Veterans Day to about 11-16 is always the peak here I think.

Some of the deer get pretty big around the cities. Franklin Co. and east and south produce alot of deer.

Here is my buck from Monday, first buck with my Rem/Pac. Funny I was ready to shoot one at several hundred yards and this guy came by in bow range, 20 yards from my tree. Ended up shooting him at 35 yards. 275 gr match hunters did a fantastic job. I've now shot a doe at 198 yards and this buck at 35, small entrance hole and huge exit. We put a tape to him and gross green score is 163 6/8".
