"Well folks , it was so cold in Illinois this morning I was freezing....reached over and turned the electric blanket up... whew so much better. Chickened out from the cold and wind. It was 11 degrees outside and the wind was a whipping. So I took mother to the grocery store. We putzed around for awhile...went to the Christmas tree farm and bought her a couple pretty wreaths to celebrate a good evening the day before.( soften her up some). Then I asked her if she would go back to the blind with me...just sit and watch the deer and turkey for awhile...maybe not even take a gun...just the camera. She said it would be fun. So we geared up and got ready to ..she said you better take a gun ...just in case. I couldn't make up my mind ..but since the savage had been unloaded last night on a very nice doe ( see Illinois day 1) I took the Encore with the Pacnor barrel. we headed out and got there a little later than I wanted. 2:00. walked out...man it was cold with that wind whipping across that cornfield. We got to the blind (heated shooting shack is a better description) and I got underneath to replace my sending unit for the indoor outdoor thermometer....yeah I know. Finished up and crawled in ..lit the heater ..stood my gun in the corner. Helped my wife get steeled in ..took off my coat ..and was messing with the thermometer again...maybe 10 min total goofing around (2:15 now). Mother looked out the window and giggled..."look turkeys" And she was counting them..1 2 3 4 5turkeys..."OH my there is a deer too ..already. so I looked and there was the biggest rack I had ever seen.... sideways. My heart began pounding . I told her to hand me my gun. I eased the window open and he looked RIGHT at me. I knew I only had a few seconds if that . I didn't have time to drop to a knee and grab a rest. I leaned against the window and leveled the crosshairs just behind his left shoulder. Squeezed the trigger and let the 200gn sst fly. At the shot it was so cool . He mule kicked and the turkeys just exploded everywhere. SOOOO cool. then he bolted and made a big sweeping turn to the right...tail clamped tightly down. Then swerved to the left a little ...then back to the right ..and in the timber. The whole time loosing steam. I questioned my shot... and began to tremble. I told mother I thought I was having a heart attack. closed my eyes and said some prayers. gathered up reloaded and got ready to look for him. As always my wife gets ahead a little... She loves to follow the blood trail. I had her get behind me just incase he jumped. We found him 75 yds from where I shot him. 10 yds inside the timber. I couldn't believe what had just happened. all I can keep saying is . "Thank You God". for if it weren't for him ...None of this would have ever happened. This hunt as with all of my hunts are special in their own way. I remember all of them and treasure each minute of my life. I also want to acknowledge my wonderful hunting buddy and lovely wife of 37 years Susan....she's My Girl Now If I can do this right pic to follow in the next post Thanks for reading Drop

Thank You Luke.....He isn't the biggest here... Got a 14 walking around too... God is good to us over here. The cool thing is that I got to take one with each gun too. Gonna do some more builds too. lol the guys around here are starting to take some notice.... What you hunting with ? They sometimes ask. When I try to explain to them what I shoot and how far it shoots........ I generally see that look their face....LIAR LIAR pants on fire. Lol Thanks for looking Drop
