We walked in about 1 1/2 miles before daylight this morning. It was my oldest grandsons first year to hunt so I took him and split up from my son-in-law and the youngest and set out to see what we could sneak up on. About an hour later we caught a nice 3x3 sneaking down a ridge and we got to 300yds. It was a little longer than I wanted him to shoot but he wanted it bad so I let him try... Long story short... He missed him clean. After letting him know that we all miss and a word of encouragement we headed back up the ridge... About that time I got a text from my son-in-law saying Big Buck Down.. Now the work begins.... He wasn't lying... 2 miles from the truck, down in a steep ravine, 200# field dressed.. Got him to the top of the ridge in about an hour and decided to give his brother a call and recruit some help.. We decided to walk out and get the deer cart and meet his brother... By that time I was swearing that this was my last rodeo.... We walked back in the 2 miles loaded the deer and headed out. We went about 100yds and the spokes on one of the wheels of the deer cart broke apart....We ended up quartering the buck on the spot and packing the meat out in our undershirts.... He shot the buck at 8:00am and we got out to the truck at 3:00pm... Looking back I'm glad my grandson missed that 3x3... W would have never made it.... It's going to be a sore day for awhile... This was my 51st year chasing these Mulies and I still love it. Zen Attachment Deleted

Hey Zen Just spotted this and was wonderin how you did. good story. These Missouri hills have me scoutin for deer uphill so the drag is down although that hurts my old bad knee worse to go down hill. Every thing here is steep which ever direction you go. Health of loved ones preventing coming out for ML. Zero deer on my place this fall. People movin in and free running dogs. Retirement ain't what its blowed up to be at 73 yrs. Got to do more fun stuff when I worked. Wayles
