I got permission to hunt this property a few weeks ago, went and scouted it and put a ladder stand up ontop of a strip mine ridge, deer was wearing it out. When I put my stand up 1.5 weeks ago there was several fresh scrapes.Well fast foward to this morning and it was my first time hunting the place.Got to my stand and set down at 6:15am I then realized I over dressed this morning and was sweating my butt off after the steep climb to the top of the ridge.
At 6:50ish I see a deer coming straight down the ridge towards me,got my gun up and scoped it out and just knew it was a deer at that point.Until I saw it stop and work over a scrape and the licking branch. Then I took a second look at the deer and finally noticed it was a decent buck.I got ready and after finishing the scrape, he made his way down the ridge to 50 yds infront of me,and well I guess the rest is history.I put a 195gr barnes at the base of his neck and he never took another step or kicked a leg,he was down.
Did my best on the pictures,I sucks hunting by yourself sometimes that you have no one to take a good picture of you with the deer or to help drag..LOL He's not the biggest, but it tickles me to death to get a deer this size.I'm having the best season of my hunting career to date, This is deer #6 of the season,I got a 8pt during bow season,im kinda afraid to go hunting again, for fear of shooting another buck and having to sit the majority of rifle season out.LOL I got a doe tag left for muzzy,i'll give it a few days and go try to fill it.
The gun is a savage/pacnor 45cal,been bedded and 3rd pillar installed shooting 60grs N120 and a 195gr barnes
