Little late posting, but I took this one last December in Nebraska. Shot him with a 200 SST pushed by 68 grains of 4198 that punched thru both lungs and kept right on going. Looking forward to going sabotless this year. Big thanks to Zen for helping me get started with this crazy addiction!

Thanks guys! I've been lurking thru the forum for several years now, decided it was time to join haha. And Zen, I'm going to have to get ahold of you soon. Almost done with harvest and will have some time soon. Need to get some bullets, im thinking match hunters or Barnes.... Nothing against ssts just want a harder hitting flatter shooting bullet

The Barnes 250 gr TEZ in my McGowen is amazingly accurate. I have to knurl them to get the proper fit.

I was leaning towards the tez, I can't really justify almost 2.00 bucks apeice for the parkers,Right now anyways... What load are you using with those Barnes?

I'm shooting the 250 TEZ's in front of 11/59 N110/H322... 2700fps and sub moa out to 300yds... If I remember right your barrel was looser than my pac-nors so the TEZ's might not need sizing...we'll see Zen

I've been looking thru all the load data on hereand saw a few that really stand out to me like the 11-59 load. But, I have several pounds of n110, reloader 7, and sr4759. Does anybody know of a good single load with any of these powders? Or possibly a good duplex? I'm sure there's several on here, its just a matter of finding them. Reloader 7 seems like it could possibly be a good single contender, as it is similar to 4198 on the burn rate chart I have.

What load are you using with those Barnes? 10gr/50gr IMR SR4759/H4198 with a Dry Wool Wad. It is good for 2500 fps. It is MOA out to 300 yards for me. If you are looking for more speed, try Panhandle's load suggestion.

Congrats and great shootin. Workin on some sabotless loads for my Mcgowen as well, including the 250 TEZ, no luck with them the first go round, but I don't think I knurled them up enough, they slid down petty easy. That was the 11/59 N110/H322 load. Gonna knurl some up again and mic them this time, try to get them a lil tighter and all the same as posssible.

I roll mine three times between two double cut bastard files to get them to the "right" size for my barrel. You need loading resistance. Which wads were you using dry wool or veggie?

.060 veggie I rolled some at home and didn't take my files with me when I went to the range. I will get the next batch right. Someone recommended trying wool wads, I need to get some and give it a try. I will most likely use the Match Hunters to hunt this year. Unless the 195 barnes shoot exceptional. We will see. My gun already seems to like the Parkers and I've only tried the 275's, I have some 300's to give a whirl too. If I can stand that recoil. I will find out soon. I am definitely interested in trying to get the Barnes Bullets to shoot for a cost factor and everyone seems to love their performance.

Consider anneàling the 250 TMZs, then knurl. Use a micrometer to get consistent sizing. You want a firm, but not really tight load. A wad under the bullet helps: don't know why, but it does. A relatively stiff booster powder load gets the bullet obturated faster and more consistent . 10g VV-110 or 4759 under 45g H-4198 might be a good starting load. Just some thoughts.

I'm going to knurl/try knurl/try....etc., until I feel I have the exact right fit, then mic it and knurl 20 or so up to that exact size and try them. I may bump the booster up a notch as well. This is just the beginning, I will hopefully get them figured out someday. A little tough right now with season upon us. I'll try some and see how it goes, if they're not great I'll just shoot MH's for this season and get back to working up loads after season. Thanks for all the pointers guys, I appreciate it.
