Well the elk hunting was tough this year to say the least and the weather was a real challenge, but we still had some good times and some cool encounters. Saw our first mountain lion track this trip out and fishing was fantastic as always. Looking forward to the next trip west already, most likely 2015.

Yeah we saw some elk, 1 nice bull but he wouldn't budge from his cows, had a raghorn at 10 yards but he wasn't legal and several close encounters that when we called, they left the county. Snow wasn't the issue at all, it was the 36 hours of pounding rain and then 3 straight days of hurricane type winds, plus a full moon first 5 days. All combined made for some rough hunting conditions/results. But it's all good, still had a good time just being there and exploring the Rockies. Trout is all we have easy access to there, so we make the most of it and yes they are delicious.

ohioguy- nice pic & you never come home from the mountains empty handed-memories,camp comadary etc. we wrap the cutthroats & brookies with foil smothered in butter with a lemon slice in the pouch-some of the best fish I have eaten served by my hunting brothers from Denver & Ft.collins.
what trout is on the far left??
I have in 21yrs personally seen 1 kitty @ approx. 1/2 mile while glassing, many tracks & a few night screams in the far hills but never a close encounter w/ mountain lion.
had a close encounters w/ moose & bears. just part of the western world.

I see your plan now. Get me out there and get me lost in that maze behind you so you can get your hands on my guns. Nice pic bud.

Deadeye, we were assuming it was just a very large cutthroat, pretty certain that's all that is in this reservoir. We have had some great sightings over the years and lots of different critters, making for lots of great memories. From bears at less than 10 yards to shooting bulls at less than 10 yards and everything else in between. Certainly love hunting the Rockies and always look forward to going back. One year before daylight, I had a black bear decide it wanted to nestle under the same tree that I was under, I could hear it breathing and at one point felt it breathing, luckily it smelled me and bolted, only seconds before I had a heart attack... Lol That's one of several very close encounters with bears we've had, just part of the memory bank...
