I am new to this Coyote hunting and wanted to use my 20 gauge for close range shooting if possible. The shotgun I have is a Remington 1100 20 ga. 2 3/4" with a remchoke barrel. I have a few different chokes for the barrel that consist of skeet, mod., full and super full. So my questions to you guys are: 1)Can I use this shotgun to kill Yotes with? 2) If so which choke should I use? 3) What type of shell would do the best job? 4) What distance would you consider to far to shoot with this combo? Thanks for such a great site and your response is appreciated Ronnie

Yes it would do well at short range using No. 4 buckshot and the full choke. You could also use a slug and increase the range considerably. Distance? With the No. 4 Buckshot I would limit it to 45 yards. With slugs my guess would be 75 yards using rifled slugs. Is it drilled and tapped for scope mounting?

The only thing I would add to what Ozark said is to pattern any shot load 1st. Most guns/chokes will show preferences...and at 45 yds those preferences will reveal themselves.

I call coyotes quite a bit after coon season is over in the spring. A land owner that goes with me once in a while uses a 20ga modified choke with #4 buck. Just like these guys posted, it works just fine but keep it less than 50 yards.
