Anyone reload them? My buddy bought one and it is hard to find ammo for it. He has every brass that has been shot out of the gun. Any load info out there for the 17 Hornet? Where would you find the dies?

I do not reload the .17 Hornet but have owned a few .17s over the years (.17HMR, .17Rem, .17-222, and .17-222Mag). I would assume that you are talking about the new SAAMI factory round not the older .17 Hornet (K or Ackley version) or we'd likely not be needing dies since there were no factory rounds. That said you should be able to reduce older versions of Hornet data and work up. The powders that guys use in SMLs are usually pretty on it for the .17s and .22s. If he has IMR/H-4198, IMR4227, or H322 he'll be set. The only reason I have most of the powders I do for SML is from years of shooting varmint rounds. Hodgdon lists data in their online Reloading Center: data.hodgdon.com/main_menu.aspDies are available at Midway: www.midwayusa.com/find?sortby=1&itemsperpage=24&newcategorydimensionid=15269

This is the new 17Hornet. By the looks of the gun it is like the 22Hornet they necked down to 17 and rebarreled to a 17. The gun looks just like a 22Hornet the bolt looks the same in both guns but it is a 17 Hornet not the 22. I will tell him about the dies. Thanks! Anyone else have any more info out there on them?

It's a little more than just a Hornet necked down. Hornady's .17 Hornet is improved (blown out) and the shoulder, I believe, is 25° versus the 30° shoulder of the Ackley version. I nearly built a K-Hornet a year or so ago but chose not to because of what Hornady was doing. There is no telling what will happen with dies and brass.
It's like when Nosler made the .280Improved a SAAMI round and called it the .280 Ackley Improved. I built one nearly 15 years ago and now the SAAMI specs are different than how guns were chambered before. I can make it work but dies you buy labeled .280 Ackley Improved are not dimensionally the same as older dies marked .280 Improved 40°.

I did let out the fire forming of the cases. And I heard that they did not sell enough of the guns that they are going to discontinue the 17 Hornet and shells. That means the only cases will be formed from the 22 Hornet cases. The bullets are available for the 17 Remington. My buddy has the last dies from Cabelas in Prairie Du Chine.
