Want to shoot BH 209 and a patched round ball in my TC New Englander. Will a #11 cap ignite this powder reliably?

I am told that you need a 209 Primer to ignite BH 209. You could try to Duplex using T7, Pryodex, or Black to see if that works. I have shot a lot of BH 209, but only using Federal 209A Primers.

According to Black Horn you will need at least a regular 209 primer they actually would like to see a magnum 209 primer used in most guns, a couple of the exceptions would be an TC Encore or a Omega. This because of how the breach plugs are made.

dans try dropping an empty 22 mag casing worth of 4 f as a primer chage for your bh209. i use it in my flintlock without issue shooting 275 be parkers.

How is accuracy with the duplex load? Archie, Accuracy? Good enough for me to be confident that I'm able to drop a deer at 100 yards with iron sights! My load: 5.0 weighed gr. of Pyrodex RS 70.0 weighed gr. of BH209 200 gr. Lee REAL 45 cal. bullet #11 percussion cap to set it off The speed is a measured 2115 FPS MV and she has put 6 slugs into 4 1/4" at 100 yards with the stock iron sights on the old gun. And...The load has enough energy to cleanly take deer out to 110 yards. I'll be using it this fall on our Indiana deer herd.
