has anyone tried the bullet test meida kits like the bullet tube, or the kit Cabelas sells?
I'd like to do some testing thru the summer to go along with the bullet cut ups, just to see what their performace is like compared to their construction.

whyohe, boy he sure went the extra mile, nice test and nice reports.
wet news print was on my list, like the way you bundled it up. I'll have to scrounge around the neighborhood looking for papers.

The above was a test of the 300 Rem,59.5 N120,BCR at 50 yards. As you can see it pulverized bone and kept going. That is all I really wanted to know. The news paper was bundled and boxed and tossed in a wheel barrow for a couple weeks to let the water penetrate all the way through. One thing , after it soaks up all the water it can take, the paper bundle swells up a lot and it weighs a bunch. Although the BO performs a bit better,I would not hesitate to use the 300 Rem, based on these results.Best of all, it's pretty much a free medium.

Thanks for sharing your results. I also am a big fan of using soaked news print or phone books for bullet testing. As a matter of fact been searching the net for more info on using wet paper to test bullets. Over at Long range hunting thay have tons and tons of info concerning various types of bullet testing materials.
Bottom line is based on what I read published by the industries leading authoraties on bullet performance, there is simply no testing material that will give you both how well a bullet is likely to hold to gether and also tell you how much tissue dammage it will inflict. You will get one or the other but not both.
I shoot wet paper because I #1 wish to know for certian my bullet of choice will indeed mushroom well and quickly #2 how far it will penatrate, and #3 how well it will hold together. Wet paper will at least IMHO give me some idea or performance base line by which to judge my ML bullets of choice. Lastly, I simply can not afford the amount of OTC gel type bullet testing materials.
