New to this web page but not new to smokeless muzzle loader. I currently have a custom 50 cal SMI green mountain barrel for an encore at least 5 years old It has developed a soft/easy to load spot about 2 inches up from where the bullets sets. Not noticeable on outside but after I notice it loading I have put it up and started shooting the factory encore 45.
I have been considering a 45/70 conversion or taking 700 ADL with a .473 bolt head and having it converted over to a 45. I know slufoot does a lot of the conversion for the 45 /70. What about the 700?
Any advice or opinion on either would be appreciated.

The easiest and cheapest one for you to do would be the 45/70 encore barrel converted by slufoot,IMO...... Greenhorn

I'm digging into what is required to do this myself. Sent a few emails, will see what comes back. What you are feeling inside the barrel you stopped using may only be a tiny amount...
My Omega had a funny feeling spot and I just took a pure lead bullet (great plains would work great) and drove it into the muzzle end, then added a bit of lapping compound and just pushed it back and forth about a dozen times, making sure it never actually left the rifled bore on either end. That fixed it totally, not sure of it was plastic buildup from sabots that no cleaning stuff was touching or what.
