Kansas was good to me. After loosing the ranch I was to hunt a week before departure, I got busy looking for public land in the very NW corner of the state, which is mule deer country and I only had a whitetail tag. So finding river bottom ...land was at a premium since that was my only chance. If you haven't been to that part of Kansas, it's pretty much the start of high desert country. After 3 short days and 700 miles I pulled the trigger on my pacnor 50 and sent a 300 grain barnes downrange 135 yards to take this 5 1/2 old main frame 8 with a beautiful short hair cape. Nothing more satisfying then a successful DIY hunt. I did relearn something again, DON'T let other people plan your destiny. jeff~

Really nice whitetail!
I come from SW Nebraska and went south into Kansas several times. It isn't that hilly where I was raised (although Dad's farm was at the bottom of a valley/canyon), but just before getting to the Kansas line, the land around there seemed flat as a table top.
What town were you near during your hunt? Few places in NW Kansas have that much brush and trees!

It was on the republican river 8 miles north of wheeler. It was arid dry land 1/2 mile on each side of the river bottom, crazy stuff. jeff~

Good deal. You have a history of making things come together. I've been through that area a few times on I-70....not many people!

Awesome! Love the short hair. Only get to get those with my kids pretty much. Taxidermist hates it because it makes him actually use his skill with the sewing. Congrats!
