Ok,so i got my savage back in december, finally got me a decent scope for it yesterday.I already bought me some AA5744 powder and primers. My bullets and sabots are on order,so only thing left that I need is a powder scale. So what would be a good scale to use to measure my powder with? I don't need the absolute best, because this is the only thing I'll use it for,as I don't reload.I just want a scale that I can trust. Also I think I heard someone say that I should get a powder "tickler" or "trickler"? Can someone tell me more on that? Ane 1 more question, after you wieght your powder, what do you put it in for quick reloads in the field,or at the range? I figure i'll weight out some charges at home and have them ready to go when I get to the range.

For what you are doing, any of the balance beam scales.........yes, even the cheapest one you can find, will serve your needs. They about all will weight to one tenth of grain. You will hear all the different brands mentioned.........Lee, RCBS, REDDING, LYMAN etc. I happen to have a couple of RCBS's........only because one was the very first one I bought probably 30 or More years ago and second one was given to me? I also have a $300 RCBS Chargemaster? What do I use the most? My RCBS 5-10. Don't spend a lot of money on a beam scale.......they all will work! Get yourself some plastic vials........check with "Chuck 41", he was selling some. Google plastic vials on the internet and you will find plenty. Richard

Luke at smokelessmz.com sells vials as well. I can't recommend the screw top vials I bought on ebay some time ago, this past season I carried them in my parka pocket and when I reached for a reload 3 of the 4 had lost their top and dumped their contents

Get a trickler..... they .while weighing your charges.. when you get close to your goal weight you will be able to drop a grain at a time for consistent loads.

All great advice. I use a dipper to drop a 'light' charge of 5744 into an old (affordable) RCBS 10-10 beam scale and then use a manual RCBS trickler to bring the charge up to weight before pouring it into a plastic vial.
It is fast, affordable and accurate (I use a set of calibrated check weights at the start of each session).

Often static electricity causes powder to cling to the container. Wipe the container down inside and out with a sheet of static free that is put in a clothes dryer. Problem solved.
