I have fox hunted for alot of years with electronic calls and had great success over the years. Anymore though it seems like the coyotes have all but ran the fox out of here. I just bought a new fox pro caller, what are some of the sounds you guys are using. One place I have to hunt is a large open area and the coyotes den back in the thickets, I still see some rabbits running around on the old railroad bed that runs through the property. The other places that I have to hunt are mostly wooded areas with a small three acre fields here and there and no rabbits, what sound would you guys use. I know coyotes are in the area as there are tons of trail cam pics of them. I just want to set up and do it right the first time.

WELL In a month I'd key in on stuff like female invite, pup in distress, challenge calls. Right NOW I would think in distress pray are still the best. I didn't look to see what part of the country your in but even with out any apparent rabbit activity there still the "GO TO" call. If you have some other kind of animals running around like coons do a coon in distress, lots of the "Back east" guys use woodpecker calls, I see no value out west here for them. Deer/antelope fawn in distress could work a bit latter too. A simple mouse squeaker in heavy cover may be the ticket too. This all sounds kind of brood but try them all. You can try several in one stand don't be afraid to test them all. Start out out on a low volume setting first to keep from blowing out the close ones. ALL that said I'd do a lonely coyote call first for 30 seconds then go in to some rabbit calls after 30 minuets I'd do one last howl sit tight for another 5 and move on. PS try not to over call, we only call 2/3 minuets then turn off the call for 5/6 min then call again each time a bit louder. Just my two cents.

I'm out east in Ohio, the southern part actually. Thanks for the tips, I know the one area has been hunted before, but from a couple of guys who have no clue about volume etc. 95% of my fox have been called in with the volume at 1/4 to 3/8.

i usually start with the lone coyote challenge and then work into a jackrabbit distress or cottontail distress, volume for me low at first then work up to full blast, most of the yotes ive had come in about half way through the set, although if and when the temps really drop here in ohio be ready becasue ive had them come out of nowhere in seconds looking for a meal!!! Coyote hunting is a rush thats for sure!!! good luck!!
