I took my 7 yr old son hunting for the fist time last weekend! With the assumption that we would not see anything do to trying to keep him intersested and occupied we had 7 doe's come upon us. I set my sights on this little doe do the fact she was a whopping 20 yards away quarting to us and was in plain sight for my son to see I squeezed off the shot and the 195bx powered by 63gr of h4198(thanks dave d) found its mark entering in her chest and exiting in front of the rear leg! She stumbled 15 yds and dropped, the whole time my son is filling the woods with his yelling "YOU GOT IT DAD"!! Out of the many deer I have killed this little doe is my trophy of a lifetime! Thank you everyone on this board for all that you guys do! Without this board I would have never built my 45 cal that took the deer that made such a special memory for me and my son THANK YOU ALL! Better get a gun in his hands. Looks like he wants to be the shooter. I bought an old used ML for my son. Dont even remember what brand. It was cheap and a bit rusty. I cut the stock down, put on a $50 scope and he shot his first buck at age 5. One 50 grn pyrodex pellet and a 250 xtp. Noise but no kick. Great at 50 yards. Even a bit further. I passed that gun on to another as my son is 10 and can shoot one of my guns. No better hunting that with your kids. Both my son and daughter have shot some real nice bucks. And does too. Its the best.

Awesome. I remember taking my son squirrel hunting at that age and then deer hunting once he got old enough. Nothing like that first time he gets one. Your day is coming.
Great weekend for sure.

FANTASTIC.....love to see the young ones enjoy it and always a bonus to get a harvest, i know my 10 year old is already got a list of stuff for me to put on his 700 pacnor build, im gonna let him make all the decisions as far as fluting, barrel lenght, scope magnification and such, pretty neat to see him researching stuff at age 10, hes more excited than me!! lol congrats on a fantastic memory!!!

That is great.
I still have very vivid memories of hunting with my father at a young age. It seems like yesterday and it was over 40 years ago.
My father died 8 years ago at the age of 84 after years of fighting alzheimer's and parkinson's. It is memories like the one you created with your son that will live forever with you both.
It is hard to appreciate just how special these times with your son are until you and he both get along in years.
Congratulations
