Was able last night to get a shot at a mature ohio doe. She was ranged at 147 yards. I was using a .50 cal Savage with 70 grains of h4198 and a 325 grain hornady ftx. She dropped in her tracks. She was slightly quartering away the bullet entered just behind her right shoulder and came out infront of her left shoulder. I'm so happy with this gun and load combo even though I have had the gun for several years, I don't think I could ever part with it. Thanks for all the help guys.

That's Awesome. I have some FTX on the way and eager to try them.

I was impressed with the performance of the 325FTX this year, I stayed inside the 100yd range this year because I didn't get a chance to shoot the rifle or load beyond that before season started so therefore I had no idea where it would be hitting at. My Savage really likes them out at 100yds so far and the three deer that I tested them on hated them, two does dropped straight to the ground and the buck I shot was knocked down on impact but got up and went 30yds before he fell and stayed down.

Congrats on your bang flop, are you hunting near the Indiana border? ;D
I'll just keep shooting them where I've always shot them. Someday I'll miss and hit high shoulder ;D

One thing I've noticed about smokeless with a heavyish bullet at high speed. You don't necessarily have to hit high shoulder. Of the 6 or so I've killed with the 250gr thor at 2300 fps, I've had 3 bang flops from centerpunched lung shots, some rib in and out, one rib in but not out. Lungs are mush and the tracking job is short

I'm down in Southern Ohio. I had it set 3'' high at 100. I aimed alittle low and the bullet still went about a 1'' high.
