Is the remington 600 Mohawk a strong enough reciever or physically capable of being converted to a smokeless ML? Just thought maybe some more knowlegeable fellers could help with this one...is it something that could be considered or should my thoughts be turned elsewhere?

Just can't resist:-) Nope no way, you should sell it to me, I just love the reverse dog leg bolt.
IMHO Your Mohawk is a perfect candidate, it can use any of the Remington DD barrels from packnor. You will just have to choose an appropriate cartridge to use to fire you charge, you didn't mention it's current chambering. If it were mine I already have an extra 26" SS barrel to fit to it.

my thought was leaning toward a pacnor ss.45 maybe 26"...but it's still a distant thought. It's currently a .308. Not sure whut cartridge would be best suited for the firing. One of my original concern was with the recoil..if everything would hold strong, mostly around what would be a hollow area from the lacking of a magazine.

OK, bring me up to speed!
The DD barrel is designed for the Remington 700 action. Does this match the Mohawk action? I don't know, but don't buy it right now unless they are very close, if not then you need some redesign.
The main item to think about is the distance from the front of the action to the boltface.

"The Mohawk" Same family as the 700 Edge. I believe the Mohawk is the very same thread, setback , as the 700, I also believe it is the very action the XP100 are built on. My neighbor just rebarreled a 600 series in 6mm rem. , same cart. head. Now wouldn't a XP100 be interesting as a Smokeless muzzleloader!

I recently sold a 600 in .350 Rem Mag; even with my heaviest handloads the recoil seemed less than the 10MLII . As light as the 600 is I'd expect a real attention-grabbing kick after you convert it. On the other hand, it'll be a pleasure to carry.

I think I am going to go through with it. More I think about it the more I want it.
Harley, I know what you mean about it being light, I'm going to attempt a refinish of the stock cuz it's in need, but a recoil pad will definitely be added...maybe a little weight? Might even try one of them plastic stocks .. It's always been a great gun and it just feels good in my hands. It'll be a fun and interesting project I'm sure!

Moto, it's a great rifle; the only reason I sold mine was I had no need of a dedicated brush-oriented platform since I only shoot long range (and because someone wanted it badly ($).
At one time, Remington offered a free bolt-safety modification (following lawsuits) that converted it from a two position to three position safety. Whether you have to pay for it or get it free it's worth doing.

Moto, I just noticed what you said about the stock needing work. For almost nothing you can buy the Birchwood Casey refinishing kit and do a very attractive job, yourself. I did, and I had no prior woodworking experience. I was even able to steam out significant dents in the stock before refinishing it. As for weight, consider a mercury recoil reducer in the stock. Add a Kick-Eez pad and there you go.

I actually just ordered a kick eez for the little feller and agree with you about a mercury recoil reducer. I've been refinishing stocks all winter it seems, just trying to make myself wait for recoil pad and some info on size for my barrel channel. I'd hate to mess with any of it after it's all finished!
According to Remington the safety mod was done, otherwise I would get it taken care of as safety must come first.

moto, Last I knew, Gun Parts Corp, still had a good selection of new OEM stocks for your 600, the last time I got one it was less than $70.00

Moto, "acccording to Remington...."; check it for yourself. Put it on full safe; you shouldn't be able to open the bolt. Then, slide the safety to mid-point (detent); you shouldn't be able to fire the rifle, but should be able to open the bolt.
