This yar post is about my youngest son, Jake and a doe he shot Saturday night and the recovered Barnes 195 Xpander. We were watching a field between two patches of woods hoping deer would cross and its slowly getting dark, cloudy, breezy --about 4:30PM. My older son,Zach suggest's that Jake walk the length of woods where we're sittin to check a patch of winter wheat that doe's frequent. Jake starts the 120 yd walk & stops, gets on his knees then belly crawls to the edge of the woods to looking towards the winter wheat patch & fires. By this time me & Zach are almost down to him and he says--Doe Down! Cool, how'd it happen? As he was walkin to the corner of the woods to look at the winter wheat patch, a doe busts him and runs in the woods. He continues to walk slow, then crawl to edge of the woods only to see three flags bounding away, but three deer are still feeding. (apparently the 12 mphwind confuses the deer) They are on the alert, but too late...he shoots at the bigger doe and she drops. Shot was 160 yds and hit just ahead of the rear legs breaking bones and lodged under pelt opposite side. Also bled out the femoral artery. She went straight down and struggled to get up--never did. She weighed 110#'s. Recovered Barnes bullet mushroomed perfect & weight retention is 100 %. Yessir I'm proud of him.
