Arkansas has a big buck contest each year. Recognition and several valuable merchandise prises goes to the winner. Sound good? It was originally but crooks have discovered a way to beat the odds. It is simple, go to Illinois or some other state and kill a hugh monster that is pretty much normal in some places. Bring it into Arkansas and check it in as being killed here. This is so unfair to the honest hunters that gets a good local buck. I have contacted G&F officials and they are searching for a way to stop this unfair practice. Anyone have any ideas? Develop a good thing and there will be people who will find a way to cheat. I don't mean to show Arkansas hunters in a bad light and nearly all are fair minded. Just the few bad apples spoiling the whole barrel. If I killed a trophy Arkansas buck I would not enter it in the contest. Anything killed in my area would not have a chance with the above described practice going on. Ozark

That's sad Ben. Make the winner take a lie detector test and shoot him (or her) if he (or she) fails. Cutting down on the prizes is another option.

Are arkansas deer and Illinois deer the same sub species,VIRGINIAS, ? A dna test would prove it, but expensive also. The lie detector test is usually how most contest,Billfish tournaments,Bass tournaments, etc. handle the cheaters. We have a big buck contest in pensacola, that has an out of area division which is any deer killed north of 100 miles from Pcola. That makes it more friendly to the locals killing local bucks. GH

Yes, it is sad but losing first honestly to a cheater leaves one with self respect and that is more valueable than the prizes. If someone here kills a trophy buck the neighborhood knows about it in less than twentyfour hours. A hunter could get statements from locals vouching that they seen the deer before it got stiff. But there may not be a perfect solution to the problem.
