Finally made it to the range with the knight disc to try the BH209.I only took 9 loads loaded with 3 each,100,120 and 130 grs,200 sst's blue sabots and mmp sabots. This was a short test but it told me that the BH209 would shoot well.
I had replaced the bolt and primer holder with the conversion that uses no discs.
Backing up some years ago I had one of these knight disc extremes when they came out with the 1:20 twist barrels. It took me all summer to find a load and bullet that would shoot good groups at 100 yds.Only took it one time deer hunting and dropped a doe at 170 yds.The load was 110 gr pyro and a 225 gr PB.
Last year I took in trade for this knight that had had the 1:20 replaced with a 1:30 twist.
The first 3 shots with 100 grs I used to get the bullet impact close to a dot so I could see a group,I used the blue sabots which were very loose going down. The next group of 3 were with the 120 gr and I used the mmp sabots and all 3 bullet holes were laced together going to guess group would have measured 1/2 in.By this time the the part that holds the primer was so fouled it was hard to get the primer out,one shot I had to take the bolt out to get the primer out.( I thinking next time I will use the red primer holders, they should seal better and keep the fouling in the BP??)The next 3 with 130 grs went I am going to guess 2 inches straight up and down this may have been because I used the blue sabot on these because the barrel was fouled and they went down a little harder.
No more than what I shot I would say the BH 209 works great.
Richard and I tried the 200 gr (.452) hornady bullet in our savages and they didn't shoot very good at all with different powders. But this may be a bullet one should try in the reg muzzleloader and the BH 209.I would try them but I don't have a 50 cal that will shoot the BH209.
