Didn't last long. I've been helping local farmers with harvest but found time to go out Sat. afternoon. Got sat up about 4:00pm with my lawn chair camo shooting sticks and a copy of The Paper Jacket by Paul Matthews. Saw two does come out about 300 yards away. They worked their way to me within 25 yards and looked me over then started out. Shot the big one at 50 yards, right at 5:00pm. Took an hour. It was still really warm here but it's finally cooling off. Meat for the freezer.

You made deer hunting sound so easy & casual I kind of wonder if I need to rethink my approach on hunting deer. My partner and I look at simplifying deer hunting as we get older to reduce body abuse. Yeah we are starting to admit the current bodies are experiencing metal fatigue with aging. But will never admit it’s time to give up until the metal fails. Now it’s time to exercise the grey matter more than the rest of the body.
Congrats on a clean harvest and enjoy.

Deer are experts at reading body language. They watch a person or persons and decide if they represent a danger. You can work ignoring caution and they will watch awhile and decide that you are not in a predator mood. If your are hunting and in a predator mode you slip around like a wolf on the prowl and they detect it in a jiffy and take evasive action. At our cabin my wife and I used to sit on the porch and read while watching wildlife. Deer would spot us and soon reach a decision that we did not represent harm. They then would more or less disregard us and focus their attention on other areas. If a squirrel, cat, dog or a turkey came in view they would give them a once over and reach a decision. We found that deer seemed to feel comfortable when around turkeys. It was like they knew that the turkeys were always alert and watching. When a turkey sounded an alert cluck the deer would come to an alert mode and evaluate the reason. Someone once told me you could see a lot by just watching. I am not sure what that means but think I agree. Ozark.

I love to hunt in the fall. I like the temp. a little cooler than last Saturday was but it was still nice. I say every year I'm going to wait for the big buck. I watched this one for quite a while, and decided I could hunt some more or put her in the freezer and go drive tractor. Choose to go make money in the field. 42 gr. N110 HBCR 300gr. Remington JHP.
