Hey all .. Ive never owned a gun .. thats right never owned a gun, my grandfather had several and took me hunting with him I just used one of his .. I'm mainly a fisherman.. but for some reason my son who is now 9 has been bugging me to take him hunting since he was 5 or 6 , I bought a used bow. and we have been practicing with it and a pellet gun .. he is actually a really great shot.. we had cub scout weekend at the boy scout reservation, he hit buls eye on 7 out of 8 with bow all within a 2 inch circle, and 5 out of 5 bulls eyes with bb guns ... I know little about black powder guns .. for that matter I know little about guns in general. Ive watch a bunch of TV hunting shows over the years .. and have gone with friends.. but thats the extent.. I wanted to stay with BP and Bow .. to make it more sporting and if he cant make kills with these he will be able to shoot any gun out there. any way any help with gun selection. or other tips would be appreciated

Good to have you here, what kind of hunting, shooting are you planning in the future, bowhunting...? Thats great your son is interested in shooting both bow and gun. You can get him a nice bow from mission/mathews that has an adjustable drawlength that will keep up with his growth rate. There are many bp guns out there to choose from, also there are a few that are convertable ,that use interchangeable barrels. In your case that might be the way to go. The Thompson center Encore is the most recognized gun in that catagory, its a full size gun though. Rossi makes a gun similar to that but in a youth model. Its a good beginner gun. If your boy learns how to kill deer with a bow he can hunt with the best of them IMO. Good luck with gun choice and you both practice safe gun handling, ANY gun should be treated as a loaded one. Its the UNLOADED ones that kill. Greenhorn
