Having a Model seven setting around for a build, would like to go 209 primer for it. What would be involved in getting a ML bolt out of a Remington and putting it in a Model seven or 700 action?
Have one of Pete's plug in my model 7 present build. Having some problems with it eating up brass. After some time it will finally score the breech plug and will have to turn the plug to a new surface and reset the head space. The head space is so tight I am fearful of galling the bolt and action?
I have cut a grove in the Remington breech plug, installed a O-ring in hopes it will last longer. Reluctant to shoot this mod and temp out side, I have been putting off going to the range. Now it is cooler the pressure is on to see if the o-ring will hold up more than one shot?

O-ring was a failure after a dozen or so shots. Tar's load proved to be a go getter after some tweaking (5 shot group). 15/47 4759/H4198 Will be trying 209 primers in Pete's Remington BP as an effort to stop blow by. After drilling the center of the BP and modifying 308 brass to accept 209 primers. Will be heading to the range for more testing, if it works will post some IMG of mod if anyone is interested. If this does not work I will be looking for a Remington ML action to screw 45 McGowen barrel on.

Fixed mine by machining brass to accept 209 primers. Something is not square to the bolt face, suspect is the barrel to the action? Drilled out the breech plug with a modified 22 Mag chamber reamer that has a taper for a perfect fit. Now the 209 is in he BP like a Savage, with zero leak!! All was good to go except getting the primers out of the CF case after firing. Ended up making a de priming tool on the lathe out of an old 22LR barrel, PIA. The primers are soft and will bend like a rivet and get stuck in the case. The old 22 lr barrel was drilled for a new primer. By driving the barrel over the primer (inside the case) to support the 209 then I hammer the primer out of the case and now I can install new primer. s1098.photobucket.com/albums/g371/spoonover/Primer%20fix/No more blow by = better groups on my McGowen. s1098.photobucket.com/albums/g371/spoonover/Primer%20fix/

Spoon, How much primer was protruding through the inside web of the case after it was primed.
Thanks John

.150 is about the average. Would like more but all my brass was cut for previous BP.
Bore nipple in BP and than set head space like before, you'll have the first seal. 2) bore cases to accept 209, no need to make them real tight, I have been playing with the size and snug is working fine (easier 209 primer replacement). 3) Recess the bottom of case about .025" leaving a rim on outside edge so as to keep head space the same and 209 is flat on bolt face.
Good luck and post your attempt!

Spoon, The brass I'm using is 6mm Rem, They have a thick base. I noticed the 45 rem auto pistol cases were quite a bit thinner. I will measure them tonight, And let you the difference.
