I just put my pac-nor on a stock ml2 ,I followed the link on headspacing, i was wondering what will happen if it isn't done perfect, when i shot my primer off i had to shoot it again to get the primer out. my primers are tight and don't go in 2/3 of the way unless you push fairly hard .what should the barrel nut be torqued to? thanx mike

Slightly enlarge your primer pocket by using a fine grit sand paper. Checking often. You do not want to over do it as you will see increased blow by. I once bought a bit for this procedure and the drill bit was slightly oversized and opened up the primer pocket to much..hence the sand paper tip. You want to check your primer seating depth with the breech plug installed. You can do this by marking your primer with a sharpie or white-out. The sticking primers thing usually rectifies it self with time as the area where it rests wears. As far as barrel nut torque goes I have always hand tightened and then added a few raps with a rubber mallet. None have ever backed off.

Even when everything is perfect, "dry firing" a primer will usually result in a stuck primer, requiring just what you did to get it loose enough to pull out. The true test is with a load.

Reinstall the breech plug into your barrel and close the bolt and thread barrel into receiver until you make contact and back it off 1/8. Next mark the outside of several primers(full length) and open your bolt up and insert primer and close.Reopen and take look at the outside of the primer. The sharpie mark will tell you how far the primer has seated. Adjust accordingly. While doing this I like to hold the gun straight up and down so as not to cant the primer so it will feed properly. This is not hard just take your time and get it right and then tighten down your barrel nut. The worse that will happen if you are off a little bit is that you will bulge primers or get blow by from not being seated far enough in. Shoot a couple low dose rounds and inspect your set up and then get after it!

You can also mod the primer pocket with a Dremel tool polishing bit in a nut driver handle. I prefer to polish the pocket a little bit if it has any tooling marks. It also makes it harder for the carbon to stick to the plug.

You can use the Dremel if you use the soft bit and jewelers polish too. Ive done this to several sub gun plugs with excellent results. Using the correct bits its easy to polish the sides and bottom of the primer pocket in a few minutes.
I personally prefer a deeper primer pocket and head spaced a bit tight but without much crush on the sides of the pocket. Using a crush of no more than .003 has worked great in sub guns with heavy BH209 loads so i want to test this mod in my new (to me) Pacnor with a slightly modded Savage plug. I want the primer setting against the bottom of the primer pocket at first and tighten it up by .001 if needed.
Using Win209s with a .003 crush in a Lehigh breach plug have literally come out spotless on the sides of the primer and extract with ease. Ive tested it with upto a 385gr bullet and its been flawless. Im hoping some of this theory will apply to SML use also with a Savage plug head spaced for a CCI209M.
