Took me 2 weeks to figure this out but here is the story. Purchased a Limbsaver slip on recoil pad this spring. Did not fit me with the stock pad still on so I removed the stock pad, slipped this one on and everything felt fine.Used some electical tape to wrap around the new pad to hold in place. Took a few offhand shots, everything felt good so I cleaned up the Savage and put it in the cabinet. A few weeks ago when the weather cooled I pulled out the Savage and shot some groups. Could not get my normal load of 63gr rl7, 325ftx and bcr to group well. Was getting fliers, which is not normal. I checked the scope, vent liner , breech plug and everything was fine. My boys light load of 40 gr 5744, 300 Horn, and bcr grouped fine. After cheching everything else I finally pulled off the slip on pad, installed the stock one and shot some groups. Low and behold all is back to normal. The only thing that I can figure out is under heavy recoil this pad and myself do not get along as far as the grouping goes. Can a recoil pad just be too soft??? This one really cuts the recoil but maybe it is soft enough to let the stock move differently under heavier recoil?? Maybe my shooting form off the bench is not consistent enough and the pad just magnifies the problem.?? Anyway, things are back to normal and I am happy, even though my shoulder will feel the recoil little more.

I've often wondered this about being too soft, especially on guns with a stock angle not conducive to receiving it straight back. Unless the pad compresses the same each and every time, it would seem accuracy could suffer.
On my H&R with limb saver I combat this by using a hard hold. Pull the gun tight into my shoulder or lead sled and hold the forearm at the sling down and tight.

+1 on holding gun back and tight into the shoulder.
I have a limb saver on my setup and have not had a problem if I do my part on holding the gun tight to my shoulder.
Hope this helps,
