Today was another excellent day. Pretty close to last week. At 7:45 a.m. it was 60* and only got to around 80 by the time we quit. It was sunny and there was not enough wind to cause any excuses ;D. I started off re-visiting a duplex that had shot reasonably well at 10/53 but wanted to drop the velocity a little so I went to a nice even number like 10/50 of N-110/N-120.
After firing one fouler, I fired a group with the 200 gr. Nosler which while not great, was plenty deer good (and yes, I am confident that any one of the bullets in the group would have been capable of hitting a deer at 300 yards based on the standard projection and lack of wind or bullet in-balance etc.) (1.5")
Using the same load, I then stoked up the rifle with 200 gr. S/W's which opened up the group to 2MOA (6" at 300 yards---dead deer ;D)
Now here is where I run into a problem with accuracy with the 195 Barnes (at least for me?) Still deer good to 300 yards
The load I am using this time shot five in .9" and four in 1/2" last week! This is a 10/50 duplex with 10 gr. of N-110 under 50 gr. of H-4198. Using the UN-knurled 195 Barnes I only got 1.9" for five but four in 1.5".
Listening to some of the "scuttle-butt" about knurling the Barnes due to lack of obturation, I went ahead and knurled five. These were shot with the same load and again, did about the same only a tenth bigger (2")
So, while I was at it, I fired five more shots with the same load but using the 200 gr. Noslers? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?
Three shots in .764" and five in one inch even?
My Extreme Spread on the first Barnes group was a mere 18 fps. This is great! But not accurate(for me?) The second group was only 33 fps which I still consider pretty good for ML's but still not as accurate as the last group with a 49 fps ES with a cheap bullet?
Go figure?
Tar.................note how it is not the first three that are the tightest except maybe group five and there all are pretty close?Just my experience?
