For those of you who have used it in the .50 cal. I am going to roll up some Reloader-7 for Mark to shoot in his .50 cal Douglas barrel. I need some starting points for 250 and 300 grn bullets. Thanks

Tar, The Re7 that I used was probably 35+ years old. I had a keg that had the Hercules label on it. Anyhow it was always slower than the 4198's in the charts back then, but now they have it listed as quicker in Hodgdon's burn rate chart. My keg reads"contains 7% Nitroglycerin". If you look at ATK's MSDS sheets it states "<5% Nitroglycerin". SO my Savage clocked at 2350fps using a Rem300HP .458" using 63grs of my old lot Re7. Super accurate. Shoots at both ends.

Most of the reports I have read, accuracy seems to fall in the 63-70gr range with 300gr bullets. My gun likes 65gr.
With 250's, I would have to check my notes but I think I went as high as 71gr and velocity barely broke 2300fps. Herman timed it at similar velocity at about the same time. IMO it is better suited for 300gr bullets.

63-67 gr's is load range recommended to me last year. As mentioned above,67 worked very well for me.

Rick, My .50 barrel loves 63 gr R7 with the Harvester BCR and 300 gr BOs. Uping the charge was OK but not as accurate as 63 gr for me. I used win 209s. I got mid 2200s with that load. I also did well with the 300 gr Remingtons at that charge. I tried some higher charges with 250s but got too much muzzle flash for my liking and not as accurate. I never tried the .458 325 gr FTXs but I have a suspicion it would be awesome with those as well.

I am just trying to give Mark some options for his encore conversion to play with. i suspect you are right concerning the 325s.. ;D potent bambi medicine! ;D

63gr of Re7 and the 325gr is a nice shooting combo for sure. Speaking of the 325gr FTX

I really like them with Re7 because you dont need to drive the 325gr hard and they are heavy enough to down load them a bit with it too if you don't like taking a pounding. In the NULA im going to try to get Re7 to shoot them about 2050-2100fps. I might be able to get that with 57gr and still get good ignition.

I shot some 325 gr. ftx with 63.grs. of reloader 7 and a BCR sabot today in my model 7 that Cecil Epp built for me , has a 24 in. 1 in 28 twist green mountain barrel. Only got to shoot one group before it started raining but it shot 1.25 inches. This gun weighs 8.0 pounds complete with scope and recoil was noticable!
