I got a call today from Casey at PN concerning the damaged barrel I sent back a few weeks ago. According to him the damage had to have occurred after the barrel left their shop. The more we talked about it, the more it made sense! The problem had to have occurred somewhere inbetween the original purchaser of the barrel and the nephew of the member I received the barrel from. The barrel had apparently been sold to "someone" in Ft. Smith Arkansas (I did get a name). Somehow it changed hands with the nephew of one of our members here in NC. Some type of trade took place between that nephew and uncle where a .270 was traded (I know, a long story). I received the barrel and a Rem. ML action from the member, all in good faith! I don't believe either he or his nephew had any idea the barrel was damaged. Casey explained that he could not even get a lead lap down the bore due to the damage (mind you, it did shoot an almost five shot 1" group even with a loose scope mount ? These poured lead laps are extremely tight. Based on that assessment, he said they could have never lapped the barrel? This means the turkey who got it, must have gotten something/bullet stuck and use some type of steel rod or whatever to dislodge it??? Then, knowing it was damaged, decided to "off it" probably over the internet to an unsuspecting buyer. Since the buyer never used it, the uncle had no idea of the latent problem! Be that as it may, Casey, being the gentleman that he is, agreed anyway to give me a new barrel! Talk about a company that gives service! And he said I should get it in a week or two! Many thanks to the people at Pac-Nor Barrel Company. This is something to think about when looking to buy a barrel. A company that stands behind their product. Richard

That is in line with Sherlock Holmes work there,Richard! ;D Dittos on that. And to PacNor on replacement. But if they share original buyer name without his permission to do so-thumbs down JMO (Ok,I volunteered it. ) Are you talking .45 in ML conversion here or CF?

You hooked yourself up Richard, and they didn't even have to do anything for you,..... Pacnor has a proven track record and obviously goes way beyond backing their product. When you make any kind of purchase and you know that the product is of high quality and is backed up by the manufacturer, you have much more confidence in your decision to do so. Thats why I went with the pacnor instead of the Mcgowen when that were available for a breif moment. Now they are not selling ml barrels at all IIRC. I'm glad for you Richard that you didn't have to eat a barrel so-to-speak ,don't forget the drop,or can you get one for a 27" barrel? Greenhorn

Ogleburn..........No, PN did not give me the original party's name. My friend was able to go to his nephew who got it. Pac-Nor initially wanted to know who it was originally sold to. I guess they wanted to verify that it was their barrel since they would have a record of the sale. Once they leave the shop, there is no telling a PN from a Brux or a Krieger of whatever? And, I would have not recourse with that person anyway? (Let the buyer beware) This is why it pays to deal with people you know, whenever possible. I just recently got a PM from a member wanting to buy from another member asking me what if anything I knew about that person. I had to admit I knew nothing and never had any conversations or dealings with that person? I am sure others in the past have asked about me before sending their treasured rifle to me? It pays to question! Richard

Mark.........if you go back up 8/16/11 You will see a triplex load that did five in 1.032----saboted and 1.3" sabotless. I actually asked Casey if they could run the button back thru it and lap it? He said it would be hard for the button to track properly and would not be up to their standards? DB..........Maybe I got lucky or maybe they appreciate the fact I always recommend their barrels. Casey also knows that many of the members here have had their barrels drop shipped directly to me and did me a special favor? Just saying? ?? Penny does peruse this forum from time to time and sees who posts what. Richard

I'm relieved to hear PN's folks honor privacy. I had diff.companies reps volunteer some info on their customers before to my shock. Good luck with the new project!

I can't find it either.......must have been included in someone else's post? What happened was while playing with the new Tom Post sizing die I noticed the bullet would hesitate about 7" down the bore and then continue thru. After doing this on two bullets, I examined the bullets (this was at home in my shop) and found they had a gouge/scrape on one the land/grove's? With the Hawkeye borescope I was able to see a scrape along one of the lands terminating in a gouge (all this in about an inch). Mind you, this barrel was originally sold to a stroker in Arkansas (which I did some research to find out). It was then sold to a party in NC and subsequently traded to that party's uncle who is a member here on Doug's. An action and the barrel then came into my possession. According to the member, neither he nor is nephew ever used the barrel and action other than firing a couple of primers thru it. Which I totally believe. It was probably the stroker in AK. who FUBARED the barrel and then sold it, I'm guessing thru the Internet? After Casey(at PN) looked at it, he said "no way could it have happened at their shop since they would never have been able to lap it? The tried putting a lap thru it and it would not go?" So with all that, they are still going to give me a new barrel. This one, he said will be guaranteed to produce FIVE SHOTS IN ONE .000" hole ;D ............. Good people at Pac-Nor! Richard
