After reading all the threads on knurling I wonder if I am doing something different or the same as everyone else. I use two 14" mill bastard files and when I am done it leaves spiral grooves down the length of the bullet. Not the diamond pattern I usually see. When I load the bullet in the sabot, it screws down in and can't be removed unless I grab it with pliers to unscrew it out. This really locks the combo together. Is this the same or different than everyone else? The only reason I ask is because of all the talk about knurling lately. In my 50 Savage I use the Barnes 250tmz knurled to .453 with supplied yellow sabot. I have not ever owned any target rifles, but this setup has been my most consistent 100 yd gun I have ever owned. I have shot 14 100yd 3 shot groups in a row with none going over 7/8", from 40-80 degrees, with 65 gr n120, and no POI change. Velocity average is 2551 FPS. The only reason I have been working on my 45-70 Encore conversion is because I hate the feel of the Savage. Is this a better way to knurl, the same, or am I just lucky?
