Guys, I bought a Leupold Ultimate Slam when they were on sale at Cabelas with the thought of putting it on my new muzzleloader. That was before I found this site and got the Savage Smokeless bug. I started wondering last night if shooting smokeless was going to change the trajectory of the reticle on the scope? Any have any opinions or used an Ultimate Slam on their ML-II? Thanks as always! ddj

You will have to shoot it and see. It will depend of course on how fast you are going to run smokeless. Most smokeless load are going to exceed BP velocities.

I debating on returning it for a"regular" Leupold. ddj Do you know the numbers off hand that this scope was designed for? If they are relatively low I would view it as a unnecessary handicap.

It is designed for 3 pellets (150 gr.) of Blackpowder. I believe it is at 2200 fps with a 250 gr. bullet. I am planning on using a 325 FTX over 44-45 gr of 5744. I think this might make a difference?

IMO the special reticles are a waste of money, but that's just me. I would return it for a regular scope. The VX2 3x9 has served me real well, as well as the vx3 3.5x10. But there's also 31 flavors of ice cream.

If its like the omega, you might have to use a lower power setting to coincide with your trajectory. If you have an 3x9 you might get dialed in with the 8x. I think thats what the directions were on the omega,a buddy of mine got one last year. I am going with a zeiss conquest 4x14x44 with the rapid z 800. It will be interesting to see how it works on my new .45 pacnor.

It actually might be close. Three pellets of T7 or Pyrodex wont get 2200 fps with a 250g bullet. From what I've heard that load maxes out at around 2000 fps...which would be pretty close to what a 325 FTX would get with 45g 5744. Like tar12 said only way to tell for sure is to shoot it.

Its too load specific for me... way to many decisions to add to a shot , could cost you the shot of a lifetime. Drop

I'd swap it back for a LR Ballistic Aim reticle. It isn't as BUSY as Shockey's deal. The one I looked through (2-7x) actually impeded the field of view. My buddy had one and sent it back to Leupold and they swapped it for him. The LR Ballistic Aim has a couple of dots that you put your ranges on (by shooting It) and it's a lot less distracting.
