What would be the best powder or powders to try with a 358/45 sabot so that it doesn't drill through the sabot?I will be trying a .358 200gr ftx in a 45 pac. i have rl 7, rl10x ,5477aa,4759sr,4198,and a few more powders, i know there is a possibility that it will drill thrugh just want to know my best chance of getting it to work. thanx Mike

I beleive I would try light loads of 10X out of those listed.
I tried 4198 and rl-7 and 4759 , with light loads at no avail.
You might try 33 gr. of 4759 to see if that is light enough to keep them from drilling.
I beleive I would try to knurl the bullets if I was to try that combo again.

The only one in your stash that MAY work is 10x with light loads. And you'd be defeating the purpose. You may need to be in the Benchmark or IMR 8208XBR burn rates to not get a drill. You didn't say which sabot you're using. Hopefully it's a PR bullet .357x.45 and your barrel has a fast twist. I tried many times to no avail, but it may work with your twist. That's why my next build will be a sabotless .358" or .375" with full form dies. Good luck!

I tried the 358X45 route with 180 and 200 gr bullets with 4759 at 31 gr. and 4198 at 45 gr. and no success in my Encore conversion. Those loads were so low that I didn't even want to try less as they do good with my 200 gr. 40 cals. Did try some FFF Swiss and BH209 in my Bergara 45 barrel and that was OK if you didn't try to max it out. Been there, done that, got the T-shirt and it was a failure for me. If anyone has any success with any smokeless and the 358X45 sabots please post the formula. Thanks all, 10 ga
