I came back to earth today, everybody can rest easy, I'm a mere mortal after all. I backed her up to 150 yards today, that's all I can get without a trip to the farm. I was unable to duplicate my success from last week, obviously I want the smallest groups possible BUT all I'm really after here is a deer killing machine, looks like I have 2 of those! I shot the Remi and the Savage Pac-Nor side by side, not so much to compare as it cuts down the dead wait time. I understand all this means is that Ug shoots THIS load better than the Pac does in my guns, doesn't mean Ug is any better than the Pac. Again, never played with any loads before, trying to establish a baseline for accuracy before trying to tweak. Here are the groups, 3 and 5 shot groups, trying to make everyone happy, only look at the one you want and ignore the other. lol

Those groups will still kill deer at those distances.

the owner of "Mr Pig"....UGs brother and yours truely went out today for a range session as he has never fired it. I installed a 4.5x14x50 rapid z 800 on it a few weeks ago and he needed to get it sighted in. the end result was a 5/8" c to c 3shot group and he was very pleased with the performance. now we need to hear from "wilber"to see if the triplets are true blood brothers.
those groups are nothing to be ashamed of, all very dead deer.........Papa is happy.....

What bullets were you using? How much wind? Still good shooting in my book.

Hornady 200 xtp's, and yes, there was about a 10 mph wind.

Bill,
Wilbur & I have a range session lined up tomorrow. I was told the dove hunters would be out of the nursery so I can use the range. Howa, them's nice groups and definitely venison medicine! 150-180 would probably be my top range where I hunt now. I whiffed a 120 yd shot at a doe last year? Steady hold,squeeze--clearly equipment issues !;D This year will be better

John, any wind at all at that range WILL turn a bugeye into a cow pattie sized group in a hurry.
for the hunters in the crowd, be sure and practice in the wind at distance. you will be amaized how much the wind moves these things around.....

John, any wind at all at that range WILL turn a bugeye into a cow pattie sized group in a hurry. Especially with an XTP (AKA The Flying Brick).

With the wind blowing even ,UG was just barely out of MOA. With that in mind thats some real good shooting. When you feel like it see how UG likes to snack on some200 sst's,and195's at 150.With no wind the xtp's might be the most accurate for you at 150. IIRC Herman shots some very nice groups at 200 yds with them. Glad your having fun with your new gun.....

Oh my gosh, that is just a HORRIBLE 150 group for Ug in 10mph winds. If I were you i would cut that evil thing in half with a torch and send it to the landfill! Unless I stay off coffee for a week, I can't do that well with my deer rifle. Bite me! ;D

John........Great shooting..........yes, its a toss up as to which is better? Probably on any given day one will produce a smaller group than the other Now maybe, just maybe, if you were to take Ug and shoot say..........(to keep Tar content ;D) Five, Three shot groups and then averaged them (in benchrest it would be called your "agg" or short for aggregate for all five groups) out and got a "number!" Then took Fred (of course it would have to be on the same day/conditions) and shot Five three shot groups and got their agg., you might be able to give the EDGE to one or the other ? Or, maybe just three ---- three shot groups alternating guns ...........this might give you an indication if you were interested in which, theoretically was the better shooter. In analyzing your groups, this is how I see it......... In Ug's first group, #1 is out of the group-- 2&3 are together. With Fred's first group it is a wash! They are all equally separated. As we go to Ug's five shot group, 1,2,4&5 form the group so the 1,2,3 theory does not work? Since shot 3 is out of the group.......so to speak. It just is what it is? Now Fred's five shot group is what Tar seems to feel happens most of the time? Personally, I have just found it is all a "crap shoot?" Sometimes it works out that way and sometimes it does not. This has just been my experience after having shot well over a thousand 5 shot and some three shot groups "You done good John!" Richard
