DB mine is 540 unshipped . Mine is stainless with flutes which are upgrades. Best way is call pacnor and Penny will give you a hard price for you. I would suggest you do it soon of you want one this year. Another route would be a BRUX barrel from Devin at SINARMS. He is taking orders now I believe. The Mcgowen route is also there BUT.........................

No, I found a .50 that I can buy for $175 and I am trying to calculate my total cost. $110 for a hunter bolt installed, $400 for a barrel, installation costs?, breech plug, trigger upgrade. It is not cheap! Am I missing anything?

Its an investment, its a gun for generations to come, Richard here has more than 1200 shots on his pacnor and is as good as new. You ain't getting no run- of- the- mill muzzleloading rifle . You being here has saved you alot of money to begin with, believe me. Check out badbull or ultimate muzzleloaders for sale. Following some advice here not mine for sure, you will have a great gun and have customer support like no other company could give on the planet. You''ve got a trustable.50 cal out to at least 300 yds. Just admit it you've got .45 itous. I'm afflicted and the cheapest cure is the 700ml conversion. Action prices are going up daily, especially gold ones, lol. I mean stainless they are scarce. If your going to order one you better do it soon . Thanks for puttin up with my ramblin, but some of it might make some sense. Good luck on your affliction, lol. By the way,you are missing a couple of optional upgrades/essentials, #1= stock?Boyds laminate 120 ish#2 tapered callaghan recoil lug 30shipped #3 Bottom metal for Bdl stock , #4 700bases/rings,scope. If your donor rifle was shot much and not cleaned thoroughly your firing spring will be questionable so thats another 12 shipped. These have been my expenses and I had a useless 700ssml sitting in the closet for years. #3 B

I've heard both good and bad about E.R. Shaw barrels. Does anyone have experience with them in CF? I'm in the middle of trying to line up that route, but just know very little about them. But even if everything comes together, it will not be Shaw who does the work for the breech plug.

I have a Shaw barrel on a Savage 110 action and it is great. It is 26" magnum sporter in 280 ackley improved and will shoot a three shot ragged hole at 100 yds. It took about four months after ordering it before I received it, but it was worth the wait.

I believe my TarHunt slug gun has a Shaw barrel but that is what I have heard. It is not printed on the barrel as such. For a dedicated shotgun it shoots very well and the finish is quite good but I do not know if that necessarily correlates to a MZ barrel.

Danno, If you talk to anyone at Shaw the conversation stops at the words "muzzleloader barrel". At the time I called them they wanted nothing to do with them. Who knows, if you go with a .375cal with a short chambered .375 H&H (powder chamber) and do a Swinglock sabotless full form sizer die, you may be able to slide it by them. You'll be able to have REAL rifle bullets to shoot with more selection than a .40cal and possible less recoil. I think it's the next level. You can get rid of that pesky sabot. Besides, E.R.Shaw were the pioneers of helical fluting and STILL may be the only ones that can do it. Good Luck!

Im a bit surprised Green Mountain isnt in the game too. I got a 4140 sub ML blank .450x.461 for just $39 and they sell many barrels if you look in their catalog including 7.62 NATO Gatling gun type barrels. They are certainly capable of making a SML quality barrel from their higher quality blanks. Doesn't SMI offer a 45cal Douglas barrel for a Savage too, if so would they also make one for a Rem700ML? It seems their pricing is VERY fair and they are somewhat flexible on making several twist rates without a huge difference in cost....just don't mention sabotless when you talk to them. mountainamThe ER Shaw fluting i have on my LRH does look nice and they do have a patent on it. At least that is how the barrel is marked. I think the .411-416 class for sabotless use shows huge potential too but with a bit more recoil. 41mags could be loaded for light work and Hornadys 300gr 405Win (.411) looks promising too if you dont want to shoot 400gr plus bullets. I think Hawks even offers a 265gr in this caliber range and they do size to your specs if you ask them. I would sure love a sabot made for the Win405 (.411) bullet in the current 45cal SMLs with a fast enough twist. Current sabots IMO are too short for the application even if you do size them well enough to fit. That is one of the main reasons ive been suggesting a 220copper and upto a 240gr conventional in the current larger 40cal being tested for sabot use.. IMO bullets much longer than those are going to be harder to get the accuracy most want with the current sabot selection. The entire purpose of that bullet is a high BC and more range. Neither will happen if the accuracy is lacking due to sabot selection.

Green Mountain does make smokeless barrels! I have one on my gun, a 50 cal. 1 in 28 twist that was built by Cecil Epp on precision rifle on a remington action. Built 2 of these guns and both shoot .75 to 1.0 inch groups with a 250 gr. sst and 43 grains of 4759 . He also builds 45 cal guns. Price to do one is 500.00 dollars for everthing. Uses a shortened rifle case as a primer holder. I plan on trying some barnes but it has been to hot ,115 degrees ,but rained and cooled down today so i will get a chance to shoot.

I wonder what just a barrel reamed for a savage plug would cost if he can do the whole conversion for $500?
