Hi Guys:
I need more vent liners, do I just order them from Randy Wakemen. $30.00 for 4 vent liners?
Are these the same as the oem vent liners from Savage?
Please let me know... Thanks

You can buy them from Midsouth shooting supplies, Savage or Randy Wakemen. I think if you do a search on the old board for ventliner you will get a lot of guys take on the stock one and the Randy Wakeman one. You will also find out how to make your own if you so choose.

I am not sure what powder you are shooting, but for me with H4198 I have gotten good life out of the factory ones and I prefer to just go with the cheaper ones so I can just through it away and put a new one in before hunting season. I shoot about 12 rounds through the new vent before hunting season and I am good to go. Get a torch tip cleaner to test the opening size and you are all set. I also understand that the ones from RW are shorter so once you start with his it is hard to use the factory ones that are longer due to carbon build-up.

Just call Savage and order a few. I did that this winter and they were about $3 a piece--cheaper than Midsouth--and were delivered in a week.

PAhunter, if you haven't already ordered, one more point to think about: The Savage VL, unless they've updated it, has a very poor hex socket. It's way too easy to round off with your hex wrench, leaving a stuck VL. Happened to me.

Dumb Question:
What is a torch tip cleaner??? Where do I get one? How does it measure the size of the vent liner hole?
My vent liners seem to crud up a little, rather than the flash hole expanding. I clean them out with a paper clip, after so many shots I just put in a new one.

Vent-Liners are very inconsistent. I would contact Rick Bibby and get a sleeved plug asap.

Dumb Question: What is a torch tip cleaner??? Where do I get one? How does it measure the size of the vent liner hole? A torch tip cleaner is used to clean out the tip of a welding torch. Get them at any welding supply store. I haven't had luck finding a set at Home Depot, Farmer's Supply, etc. They contain a set of graduated stiff wires that have a knurled section, such as they act like a small round file. The set I just purchased cost $3.95 and has cleaner wires in dimentions that correspond to drill sizes from 76 - 49. For comparison, a #65 drill is .035" IIRC. They work great to clean any orifice of that size in one or two passes.

Only dumb question allowed is two part
"Now why didn't I ask someone about this?" followed by "It going to cost HOW much to fix?"

esmd, that may or may not be true right now; you'd have to contact him to be certain.

Do not overlook Precision Rifle vent liners. They are a reasonable price and some say they last a long time.
