seems like they should work right. we use them in big bore handguns with great results. anyone using them? just another one of my crazy thoughts. with my rifle im maxing my range out at 300 yards. so trajectory will not be to bad. if Im going to shoot longer I take one of my handguns anyway. im thinking of a 255 SWC or keith type bullet.

Hard cast is fine in a sabot as long as you pick the correct hardness range. A 255 grain bullet can get pushed pretty fast in these rifles.
Most folks don't use them due to relatively low BC, but there is not any reason they can't be used with the same caveats as when choosing any bullet for the application.

They worked great for me 2 years ago during doe season. They also shot great groups. I used a 335 gr Hard cast flat nose and 30 gr 4759. Never chronied the load but it probably is around 1,400 fps....like a super hot .44 mag load....but a little pop-snap in a muzzleloader.
Same results: Smashed bones, 2 holes and deadness of deer. Short death runs with lung hits and DRT with busted shoulders. You can push them faster if you needed to but for a 100-150 yd load....why?

There are a bunch of the guys that use the board that shoot cast. I do and Screwbolts and a bunch from his camp too. I shoot a 300 gr. 451cal in sabot and use 49-49-2 mix, thats coww-pb-tin. I shoot 42 gr of 4759 in my 50 and that flat nose really does the trick. I'm sure I could push faster but really don't need the speed, just the accuracy. I get better bullet performance out of my cast than most of the commercial bullets I've tried. The only that are even close are the Barnes triple shock bullets. For less than $.10 @ for cast that is way cheaper than "store bought" and better performance too. If you use the search feature you should find plenty of references to using cast on the board. Best, 10 ga Try this link for a bunch of info on casting. It's a neat site. castboolits.gunloads.com/
