Unless You live in a cold area wait longer. With out the wad your sabot gets more heat and if the barrel has already started to warm it then it will fail.I use the tan sabots and have never blown one with 200 gr bullet and 62 gr I4198. I tried the blue did not shoot as well. I want to try them again when I have time. My barrel is also real lose as in a a .452 bullet just slides down on its own weight.

If you were groping well what are you calling sabot failure. Missing peddles does not equal failure

Thanks joe21a , im shooting the .40 195 gr bullet in my pac nor 45cal. As far as failure the sabot is totally shreaded . just find pieces. Are the tan sabot you use mmp?

Drop back on your powder charge, the sabots are telling you there's a problem

I had the same problem with my Pac Nor.It shot very good groups with blue harvester sabot and 195 Barnes, but I had to drop back to 56grain in order to get reliability.Sabot failer would cause and occasional bullet to go into the black hole or the bullet would hit the 100 yard backboard key holed.RB suggested I try a different powder.I think it was H322,but don't quote me on that.I have the suggested load wrote down, and I;m going to try it when the time and weather permits.I never tried the brown sabots, but that may be worth taking a look at.Apparently there are some that have been able to shoot higher velocity without any problems with sabots, but I have not.Twister

:)mac, first congrats on your new barrel and as far as you blowing sabot's with 58grs what was your velocity?what was the temps?if your barrel is alittle tight you might only be able to go to 58grs but you might already be at 2600fps.the blue harvestors have alway's been stellar in my guns and i have never had luck with the tan mmps and i never use wads.you have a long barrel which will work nicely with 2015 start at 68grs and work up to 72grs and see what type of numbers you get i bet you will be real close to 2800fps at the upper charges.goodluck

I think the load is a little too hot. You have 3" extra length than many of us and that would make this relatively standard rather hot. I agree that 2015 would be a better choice than 4198.

I have both a .45 cal and a .40 cal pacnor , i The .45 Cal load i am currently using a Light blue harvestor crush rib sabot and a 200 gr bullet with 80 Grains of 2015,Fed 209A.... shoots 2886 fps and 3/4 inch 3 shot groups out of a 26 in barrel loads really nice and shoots amaxing temps have been from 6 -55 degrees and no problems with ignition or sabot failure
the .40 cal I am using a 170 gr hornady HP Knurled and 70 gr 2015 fed 209 A and it to shoots 3/4 in or under.

the lenght of ur barrel maybe is building more pressure due to 28 inches ..might have to go to slower powder or less of the hotter loads

Mac111; Yes the tan are MMP; I am not sure if the longer barrel would make more pressure, because powder has reached max pressure (in mili sec.) before bullet has left the barrel.
