I took a spin out to XXX coulée today. I took the 22/250 and my call, and the ugly stick and tackle. Well , the tackle only made it out once with no action. The water is way high yet, where I normally fish is still 50 yards in the river.
BUT the 22/250 on the other hand put the hurt on some dogs. The first set, the first call.I stopped up on the top and walked out three coulées to "XXX" I was only 200 yards from the truck but of course it took 25 minuets to walk up and down to where it was out of sight. I set up an an almost straight up and down bank about 200 feet above " XXX Coulée" I thought there I could see better and I could. I let loose with a pup call and had an eye on the other side and waited. Looking hard but nothing. I was going to call again but looked DOWN and saw one trying to come UP the hill. It was working hard to get some footing and finally made some distance, at 50 yards I woofed at it. It kept coming, hum, I had to try a straight DOWN shot or I didn't know what he would think when he ended up in my lap. I shot and you know I shot over it,but out of my left eye I saw a ruckus and dust. A coyote , about 20 feet from me, where it came from I have no Idea, but it jumped and lost it's footing and was rolling ass over tea Kettle down to the bottom. Now I have two very pissed off dogs running in the bottom at full speed. They split up one going up a different drainage. I picked on and shot and misted again, took a breath and used the sticks this time and hit the first one I shot at. By the time I found the other one in the scope and turned up the power to 12 It was past the 300 yard mark but with the sticks I gave it a try It stopped for a look back just as I got the hairs on it, It went down in a heap.
There was NO WAY I was going to go down there for a picture sorry.
I did 3 more sets in the area but that was all I could muster up. All in all a good day. If you go anywhere take your bug spray!!!
:gr:
