My friend and neighbor just bought a Savage MLII with the pac nor barrel on it (From a respected member on here) and is having some issues with it and im trying to help him out. Being i have the type that uses the piece of brass i could only help him so much before it got beyond my knowledge. When he first got it he was having problems with the primers not bolting down. He took a new savage breach plug that he had bought and had the same issues. The ones that did bolt down after fireing some of them would be hard to remove from the bolt and looked like the primer gold part or inside part was pushed back and in order to remove them he had to close the bolt and dry fire it. Does anyone know what might cause this. I helped him headspace the breachplug which took care of the bolt not closing. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Primers fired without a load will do just as you describe. They shouldn't do that with a load.

If they do that with a load, try re-setting the headspace as tight as you can and still close the bolt. This pushes the face and flange of the primer closer to the bolt face. Then when the bolt is opened the flange of the primer can move forward to the retaining lip and allow the primer center clearance from the bolt face. If the primer flange is not forced back away from the retaining lip when closed, the primer center has room to bulge back toward the bolt face wedging it in the slot. Then the dry fire knocks the center back in closer to the flange.

Please list the load being used, primer, amount and type of powder, bullet and sabot.
