So I've been a little too busy to stay with the board lately (as in like the last 6 months ). Anyway, I'm thinking about doing a 700ML conversion to smokeless for my brother, and I am wondering if I can just call up Mcgowen and ask for a barrel? What lingo are they familiar with? And, if so, what will it cost me? I'm sure that info is on here somewhere, but I'm short on time and patience to hunt it down. Thanks! Luke

Call Jon at savage-barrels.com and save a little money. He will know what you want.

I called Jon at Savage-barrels and ordered the DMB#1 in SS at 26" I think it was $285 shipped. Took a while as they were ironing out some things, but I am pleased with the barrel thus far.

Bolt kit is from Hunter, Great work and fast by the way. Mine did not include a breech plug. I think he installs them for $115. I think you can get the breech plug with the barrel from Mcgowen.

Thanks again for the info guys.
I see Midway has a barrel wrench for $55, so I'll probably get that unless anyone on here has one they want to part with.

I've read a lot of complaints about the wood blocks that come with the Wheeler barrel vice setup. Most have to make blocks out of harder wood or aluminum if that the one your looking at. I use some aluminum v blocks I made and a piece of 1/8" aluminum that wraps around the loading port with a big wrench. Hunter will sell you the bolt nose kit for $85 shipped if you want to do it yourself. There is a tutorial in the build section for the bolt conversion.
