Mine is the FT- It was my first experience inletting and it wasn't bad at all. Took about an hour.

I would go with the varmit. then I would cut a ramrod channel in it and overbed the tube. if no tube you likely would not have to do much in the way of wood cutting at all. just one opinion...bill

45omega, definitely get the featherweight thumbhole, the barrel inletting on the varminter will already be too large for the DMB#1 from about 4" from the lug to the muzzle. The flats around the action and barrel are also very wide. I guarantee you wouldn't like the varminter. I am currently bedding a couple DMB#1's, one in a Prairie Hunter and one in a Featherweight thumbhole, they have very similar barrel channels. Some barrel channel work is needed, but there is ample material to work with. I just returned a Varminter for a featherweight on a members Savage I'm bedding, it was too wide even for the stock .50 barrel which is much bigger than the DMB#1.

Thanks for the help. I will go with the Featherweight. I am not putting a ramrod on it anyway.
