Hi guys, I had a little time at the range today. I am pleasantly surprised by my first crack at this new game. It was windy and 60 degrees. The rifle loaded very smooth and easy. For the first target (5 shot-1.8" group) I used 60gr. of H4198, Winchester triple 7 primers, Barnes 195 and smooth blue sabots. I shot off the bipods at 100 yds. The 3 shot group is with 62 gr. H4198 and same bullet combo. I just put the action in the stock yesterday, no bedding at all yet. I know this isnt a very good group at all for most of you on here, but for the first time out I am happy. I will try different combos and bed the action to see if we can tighten it up. I would love to hear some suggestions from you fellas with experience. Sorry about the bad picture, makes it look like about a 10" group. Rob

Saw your rifle on your other thread. Really looks great. Saw your load on this thread. The Win triple 7 primers are for triple 7 powder. Smokeless powder needs a hotter primer. I use federal 209A. Others like CCI Magnum and the like. 1 1/8 is pretty good but you will probably do better with a little more trigger time. Once again, Nice rifle.

Good outing. Only thing I see is triple 7 primers? I have not ever shot them smokeless. I personally would get some fed or cci 209m's at least to compare them too. I like the pics, they are good and show the whole target.

Good catch fellas. The only reason I used the 777 primers is because they loaded without a problem and I had 10 left to use. The Federal 209's and the CCI's do not allow me to close my bolt. I have to do a little work on my breech plug.

:)rob very nice rifle and a very good first outing. Play with 4198 between 56 to 63grs and get some cci m's and you will find a tight load. Have fun and keep posting those groups.

Hoz, try the regular Winchester 209's the should have the same casing. Not bad at all for first groups. Remember the .40 bullets we currently have the BC's are under .200 so any wind at all will mess with your groups.

As i was telling Rob today, when it gets bedded I think things will tighten up considerably. not bad for the maiden voyage.

Rob............good first outting. I know several have suggested Federal and CCI primers, but don't overlook the Winchester 209's. Not saying my groups are the best, but I have used Win. 209's for the past "over 2700" .45 PN shots Oh, if you size your photo's one size smaller, the whole picture will fit on the screen without having to scroll side to side. I worked on the breech plug a little bit and now CCI primers fit. I am allready itching to get back to the range. Not sure when I will bed the action, but now that I shot it, it is definately worth a bedding job.
